History

Brendan Tours was formed by Michael Keady, Jim Murphy and Bill Lawless in 1969 in California. The first tours were to Europe and the South Pacific and new continents were continually added throughout the 70’s and 80’s. Brendan started its first African tours in 1974, followed by South and Central American tours in 1984, as well as Eastern European, Canada and US tours in the late 80’s. Brendan Tours launched several related vertical in the air consolidation and cruising markets in the early to mid 90’s. The beginning of the new millennium brought about many opportunities, allowing Brendan to invest in “Newman’s South Pacific Vacations”, in Airtickets.com and in addition, offer escorted tours to Asia.

In an effort to better illustrate the touring services they offered, Brendan staff selected to change the name from “Brendan Tours” to “Brendan Worldwide Vacations” in January 2002. The Travel Corporation then purchased Brendan in 2006 and renamed it “Brendan Vacations,” which is now known to the trade as “Brendan.”

Brendan provides one of the widest selections of both escorted and independent vacations, offering over 800 packages in over 60 countries. Founder Jim Murphy believes that the best way to travel is not just to take a trip, but to also experience all of the sights and sounds of a country. This philosophy is implemented at Brendan and is why the company has maintained a standard of providing travel experiences that show “[They] Care” for over 40 years.

Sustainable Tourism

Brendan aims to protect the environment as well as the people and places they visit. The company is committed to both minimizing the environmental impact of their operations, as well as contributing to sustainable tourism projects all around the world.

• Brendan has partnered with Sustainable Travel International, allowing you to choose carbon neutral travel by voluntarily offsetting your flight, accommodation and coach travel.
• Brendan set up the Leading Travel Companies of the World Conservation Foundation, which is a non-for-profit joint initiative encouraging sustainable tourism, conservation and supporting natural environments, historical sites and threatened communities.
• Brendan Vacations has been introducing recycling, energy reduction and waste minimization projects in addition to supporting local community projects, in order to reduce the carbon footprints and environmental impact of their offices. Brendan staff is also involved in making a difference by being encouraged to spend two working days per year volunteering for charitable projects.
• Brendan coaches emit significantly less carbon dioxide than air or train travel. So by taking a coach tour, you are already choosing one of the most environmental forms of transportation.
